BULATS in demand from even more employers in China
19 November 2007
Adidas, MAERSK and Tesco are the latest international companies to adopt the BULATS language test to support their work in China.
Many companies in China already use BULATS to assess the language skills of both existing staff and for recruitment purposes, including the Shanghai Professional Testing Authority, where a BULATS score is a requirement for all employees under the age of 40.
Adidas, the international sports merchandise company, has many employees based in China and now has a stated preference for BULATS level 3 or equivalent for many positions including management roles, commercialisation, merchandising, sales and purchasing jobs.
MAERSK is the world's largest international shipping company. It requires a BULATS certificate for many positions and for entry onto its graduate scheme. Similarly Tesco, the UK’s largest supermarket chain now also states a preference for BULATS when recruiting from China.
BULATS is a language assessment service specifically for the use of companies and organisations which need a reliable way of assessing the language ability of groups of employees or trainees. BULATS is relevant to people at work and covers areas such as companies and products, travel, management and marketing, customer service, planning, reports, phone messages, business correspondence and presentations. The tasks in the test are generally practical ones, e.g. taking a phone message, checking a letter, giving a presentation, understanding an article, writing a report.
